Money is often tight for single parents, but they still want to take family vacations. You can find ways to cut vacation costs and still have a good time.
One major tip is to make as many of your meals as possible. Eating out is pricey wherever you live, but vacation destinations are often even more expensive. Even taking a loaf of bread and peanut butter along with some fruit and crackers can make several satisfying meals and save you the cost of restaurant fare.
Plan to vacation somewhere that has built-in fun. Disney can be wonderful, but you will pay dearly for it. Choosing the beach or the mountains can give your family quality tme and plenty of fun without breaking the bank.
Choose a destination that is close to your home. You might be surprised at state park offerings or amenities in a nearby city. You can save the cost of plane tickets and still have your family getaway.
Be sure to go at non-peak times. Prices are often cheaper and you may find that your trip is even more fun since you don’t have to battle the large crowds.
Investigate renting a house, condo or cabin versus getting a motel room. You may be able to get a full kitchen and extra bedrooms for less than a mediocre motel. Or, you might be able to find friends and family that will go in with you on the cost to make it more economical.
Campgrounds are often cheap if you’re up for sleeping in a tent. You can also investigate RV rentals which may also prove less expensive than motels.
