Tips to Make Your Online Dating Profile Reader-Friendly

With so much competition in the online dating world, how can you make your online dating profile more likely to be read and make a positive impression on prospective dates? There are several often overlooked things that you can do to make your profile more reader-friendly.

First, make absolutely sure that you have someone besides yourself read your profile before you post it. This person MUST have a good working knowledge of English grammar and spelling. You may think that this doesn't matter, but having grammar and spelling errors can give a negative first impression to readers. At best, they may think that you are careless, and at worst, they may think that you are not educated or intelligent. Get your profile proofread!

Second, break any long blocks of text into paragraphs of two or three sentences. A reader's eyes may glaze over if they see a large area of text with no white space. Short sentences will encourage potential dates to read your profile.

Third, complete all of the online dating profile questions. Prospective dates may search on specific questions in the profile and if you haven't answered that question, then you won't show up in the search results. And, blank questions can leave a bad impression since someone reading it may wonder if you are hiding something or just sloppy.

Last, keep the tone of your profile positive. Yes, you may have had a cheating ex and now hate all women, but if you put that in your profile, you will probably not get many takers. Remember, you are selling yourself, so make people want to get to know you. What if a car salesman told you that the car you want has a blown engine and a bent frame? You probably would pass on that vehicle. So, don't talk about your prior bad relationships and downtrodden life. Focus on what's good and interesting about you.

Your online dating profile may be competing against thousands of other profiles. Make sure that your profile is reader-friendly so that potential dates will take the time to read your profile, and hopefully, decide to get to know you better.
